4 Late Summer Lawn Tips

late summer lawn tips

Now that fall is just around the corner, you want to make sure that you are taking good care of your lawn in the late summer. Below are four late summer lawn tips that you can use to help make sure that your lawn stays healthy.

Late Summer Lawn Tips 1 – Water Your Lawn During the Morning

Try watering the lawn between 6-10 a.m. This is when the temperatures will be lower. This also is going to help provide it with the necessary moisture, so it remains hydrated during the day. You shouldn’t water at night since it is going to increase the likelihood of fungus developing.

Late Summer Lawn Tips 2 – Keep Your Lawnmower’s Blades High

Don’t cut more than 1/3 off of your lawn’s blades. Giving it a larger surface area is going to help it with holding moisture. Raising the deck another ½ inch is going to help with your grass storing nutrients and moisture for the winter months.

Late Summer Lawn Tips 3 – Sharpen the Blades of Your Mower

When your blades are dull, they can tear and bend the blades rather than cut them cleanly. This is going to leave the grass blades with uneven edges. This can make the grass more likely to be affected by diseases, drought, and insects. You should sharpen them several times during your mowing season.

Late Summer Lawn Tips 4 – Apply Fertilizer

Based on the kind of grass your lawn is, chances are that you should put fertilizer on your lawn in the late part of summer or in the fall. If your grass is warm-season grass, now is the time to fertilize. However, if you have grass that is cool season, then you should wait until fall.
