Flower Garden Mistake 1 – Not Planning

Although you might want to get down and get dirty and plant some flowers, it’s actually a better idea if you take some time and plan out your garden first. Think about what you want to do. Are you making over a garden bed? Are you planting a new one? Have there been changes to the existing bed? These are all questions that need answering before you can plant your garden.

Start a gardening journal and create lists. This is going to help you with organizing and planning your garden.

Flower Garden Mistake 2 – Ignoring the Sun Requirements

When you are planning what types of flowers you want in your garden, you want to make sure that you are choosing the right flowers for the spot that they will go in. If the spot gets full sun during the day, make sure that you plant flowers that are okay with that. If it only gets morning or afternoon sun, look for plants that are okay with partial sun.

Flower Garden Mistake 3 – Not Checking Your Soil

What type of soil do you have? There are some flowers that do better in some soils than others. You want to check the soil that you have and then look at the types of flowers that flourish in that type of soil. Otherwise, you may end up with a lot of unhappy flowers and your time and money will have been wasted. So, check out your soil and do some research into what grows best in it.

These are three mistakes to avoid when you are planting a flower garden. There’s a lot of prep work that goes into growing flowers, even if you are just doing it as a hobby. Take some time to get to know the area where your garden will go and you are going to save yourself a lot of wasted time and effort.
