You’re Not Infected Immediately

When a tick bites you, it can take 24-36 hours before the bacteria that causes Lyme disease gets into your system. That’s why it’s so important to find the tick and get it off of you as soon as possible.

You Shouldn’t Burn Ticks Off

This can cause the bacteria to get injected into your skin. You also shouldn’t use petroleum jelly, nail polish or something else on the tick. You should use some fine-tipped tweezers to firmly but gently grasp it close to the skin. But don’t squeeze it since this can also cause the bacteria to go into your body.

Not Everyone Gets a Bullseye

As mentioned in our last email, not everyone gets a bullseye. Some of the common symptoms of Lyme disease are fatigue, fever, swollen glands, and headaches.

Ticks are Hard to Spot

Adults are around the size of sesame seeds and nymphs are around the size of poppy seeds. So, they can be hard to see. If you are going hiking in the woods, it’s a good idea to wear light-colored clothes so that you can see them easier.
